Abstract
The five port groups in China are investigated to find the concentration ratio of container port business and its development law and the influencing factors. Herfindahl-Hirschman Indexes for each port group are calculated according to the data in the period 2010-2019 and the concentration ratio of container port business in China is analyzed. The percentage of container handling capacity shift is investigated with the shift-sharing model. The research indicates that there is a solid hierarchic structure in container port business; the concentration ratio of the business is low and has been going down year by year; and fierce competition can be seen among the 5 port groups. The change of handling capacity will lead to the change of shift increment and then the concentration ratio of the business.
